Is it possible for one to manipulate the price of a currency pair by selling or buying a huge amount? I don’t want to buy a huge lot and the price goes down because my own trade made it go down. I don’t want my own trade to change the price trend because if I buy more than is actually being traded on the market, it more likely will go in the opposite direction I want it to go.
If you are placing your trades with a market maker, then large trades may have a significant impact. If on the other hand you are placing trades with a broker that is operating STP unless your trades are unusually large they will likely cause little impact.
Since the forex market has no central exchange, there really is no way to know accurately how many or what pairs are being traded globally at any given moment.

Forex trading is the trading of buying or selling certain currency. For example, buying US Dollar, then selling it later at a higher price to gain profit. Forex traders may also first sell US Dollar and later on buy it back at a lower price with the same gaining profit. It’s simple strategy of selling price minus buying price to make profit. In Forex trading, we just treat currency as a good, buy it and sell it.

Guys, I am very interested in entering Foreign exchange trading. I believe there is big time money in that. I am very keen to learn how FOREX trading is done and stuff. If you’re new to stocks, DON’T DAY TRADE. You’ll a rookie in a world of professionals. I tried day-trading with Citigroup and AIG when they were a little bit over $1. I had some luck at first, making about $30 a day but I was way over my head. My luck didn’t last long and I had to rethink my strategy.
Day trading involves A LOT of commissions to the broker. With all the commissions deducted from each trade, you’ll be lucky if you only lose half your money.
I would just day trade using Yahoo! Finance. Open a stimulation account, give yourself $100 worth of fake money and play it in the stimulation format. You’ll see what I mean by losing money every easily.

I would like to trade the USD/CLP Pair but I am unable to find a software that offers it. Right now I use GFT’s Dealbook 360 and Metatrader 4 but neither offers that option. Is there a way to add a custom currency pair to either of those platforms?

There is over $2 trillion per day traded in the Forex market. It is the largest financial market in the world.
So yes it is real.
It is also real difficult. And not a good choice for someone to pursue on their own without in depth training or assistance.
